Trainee / Junior Buyer / Purchaser

Based: Darwen, Lancashire

Salary: £26,500 – £30,000 DOE

WEC Group is looking for a Trainee / Junior Buyer / Purchaser to join our busy and growing team in Darwen. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their career who wants to develop valuable commercial and supply chain skills within a successful manufacturing environment.

The Role

Working closely with senior buyers and production teams, you will support the purchasing function to ensure materials, components, and services are ordered efficiently and delivered on time.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting with sourcing materials and suppliers
• Raising purchase orders and processing requisitions
• Monitoring deliveries and supplier performance
• Maintaining accurate purchasing records and systems
• Liaising with suppliers, production, and internal departments
• Supporting cost-saving and stock control initiatives
• Helping ensure materials are available to meet production schedules

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience in purchasing, buying or supply chain is an advantage.
• Strong organisational and communication skills

• Good telephone manner
• Confidence to negotiate with suppliers
• IT literacy, including Microsoft Office
• Ability to work well within a team
• Willingness to learn and develop within a fast-paced environment
• Previous manufacturing / engineering industry experience is beneficial but not essential.
